Yes. {;^)) Developers have the money to spend in politics to get there way
and they are persistent. Our diversity works against us in the USA. We have
fishermen with boats on trailers who may not see themselves threatened by
the loss of marina space to condo developers. We have iconoclasts and some
bums who anchor out within view of fancy homes who don't want "derelicts"
spoiling their view. Since they represent a significant political segment in
their community, they get ordinances passed which impact all boaters.

As boaters in the US, we are not a cohesive political force. If we are
in-transit, we have no local influence when we are adversely impacted by
local anti-boating laws like no anchoring. We are a nation of individuals.
To get us to react as an interest group, you have to punch us in the nose as
a group. Adverse local rulings don't do that.

What surprises me is that the marine service industry and their suppliers
doesn't see the threat to their livelihood and act as a group to support
boaters. At present, we are losing "ground" in this fight. In some places,
like areas in New England, boating has a long tradition, but they still see
encroachment on their freedom to moor and anchor. Much of this is driven by
the motive of profit. This is not necessarily bad unless it takes away
rights and privileges previously offered free under local government
    control.

In our and other democracies, the pendulum swings towards one group and away
from another. When the affected group get mad, they push back. It's time to
find a way to push back hard.

    | In Europe, the number of boats as well as the number of marinas is
    | expending every day. In a smaller scale, in Asia too. In Australia and
    | NZ as well.
    | Only in North America the number is shrinking.
    |
    | Does that mean that North American are not very much in love with
    | boating and prefer condos or does that mean that in North America large
    | firms control the North American way of life?
