Dual racors with the pressure gauge are the best place to start. If it's a
filter you will know just by looking at the gauge. Or you can switch to the
other filter & see if it gets better. A filter that is getting plugged up
will often idle fine. If you just have one filter try changing it.
I put an electronic fuel pump in about 5 years ago (in front of the racor).
I bought it from the local Napa auto parts store before I got the dual
racors. I experienced the same problem you had but I was in a tight spot &
couldn't change the filter at that time. I flipped on the pump & the engine
perked right up. It has also been very handy for priming during filter
changes.
