    A pelorus! Jeez I should have kept my sextant for horizontal bearings. The
    list was from the Canadian boating site direct - I guess they haven't found
    out about compasses - maybe I could use the extra flares to guide me.

    Ron, you missed the need for a compass which must be compensated and if more
    than 20 miles from shore you must also have a bearing taking device. (
    called a pelorus) not to be comfused with a bear catching device.
    Now don't confuse bear(ing) with bear(s). One is not the plural case of the
    french singular. \

    In canada we have adopted the US slang term of "bear" to mean cops as in
    Smokey and the Bandits and "Convoy" <VBG> there's a bear in the air
    (helicopter) and a bear in the bush ( radar trap)

    AS for the increased number of flares. That just goes to prove Canadians
    haven't yet seen the light. <VBG>
