I'm looking at some electronics packages offered by our dealer and want to know if anyone has any experience or information concerning which would be a better way to go:
1) Nobeltec radar, GPS, depth sounder, autopilot, Admiral software, chart plotter, two touch screen monitors, computer, WxWorx, ICOM 402 VHF http://www.nobeltec.com/products/prod_admiral.asp
or
2) Furuno NavNet system with depth sounder, GPS, radar, plotter, Raymarine 6000 autopilot, ICOM 402 VHF
The dealer highly recommends going the route of a PC based system using the Nobeltec software. Their reasons are as software changes, all that needs to be done is to upgrade the software and PC.
They also claim that recent upgrades in the Furuno system are not back-compatible with slightly older versions. Is this true??
The Nobeltec system will be almost twice the price of the Furuno system, but I would be willing to go that route if it is the better way to go. I haven't looked in-depth at each component. I just wanted to start here to see what the consensus is. Any thoughts??
Thanks!
