Gee Ken, thanks for the partial list of those
people who were in FACT operating outside of
international law.
Of course almost all cargo ships out there today
ALSO operate outside the International Rules of
the Road (as the COLREGS are called).
That doesn't make it good seamanship, good
practice, or good for anything except increasing
the risk of seafaring.
HOWEVER, I DO support the right to do so. Just
pay for your own rescue, damages, and understand
that no insurance company will cover you if your
boat gets damaged, or you damage somebody else's
boat.
Now, let us talk about the length of time a
person might be able to stand watch alone on his
boat. 36 hours? 48 hours? Longer?
I am pretty sure I could go 48 hours with little
problem. Heck I do that often enough just from
insomnia these days with no trouble..
I once drove across America, from Cape Canaveral,
Florida, to Menlo Park, California in 3 and a half
days. I slept 6 hours in Eastern Texas and that
was all. Coming out of Las Vegas I let my friend
drive because I was having trouble, but I had to
take over again after 20 minutes because he was
such a poor driver. His constant accelerating and
decelerating drove me batty! I'll never understand
why some people can't keep their foot steady on
the gas pedal! That 20 minutes of his jerky
driving woke me up so well I was home in Sunnyvale
(about 15 miles South of Menlo Park) for another 8
hourse before I could GET to sleep!
