    I am there now.

Depending on the current, sometimes you don't need a stern anchor. I have
been here since December 26 and today (my morning walk takes me there everyday)
is the first time that I have observed the Stennis Lock and Dam not letting
out water. If it rains upstream, all five spillways are open. In moderate
weather only 2 or 3 will be open. The Tenn Tom is a navigational system, not
flood control, so they try to balance the entire system.

So, if it is a time of the year when the current is strong...a knot or
two...you won't need a stern anchor. My trip up the river in December did not
require one. I would assume that in summer, one might be necessary. I'll find
out next week when we leave for the Tennessee River.
