Someone has laid the ground work for a disaster. Never secure an anchor with
a pin. In addition to corrosion, a pin can be bent. This my prevent
deployment of the anchor in an emergency.
Anchors should be secured with line. The correct use of the pin is to
prevent the rode from jumping the roller in bad weather. Lastly, the pin you
have was not intended for this use. Pins made for the marine environment
exist and do not corrode. However, the ball can get sticky. There are also
Aerofast (sp?) pins which work with a thumb plunger which work in the marine
environment.

| There has got to be a better way. My boat has a Kingston Anchor Roller
| on my bow and it has a 4" Long push pin that runs thru the Plow Anchor
| and thru the roller bracket to keep things in place. The problem is that
| the little spring loaded ball keeps getting corroded (this is our second
| one) and the Admiral needs to use a channel locks or mallet just to get
| it out each time we use it. There must be a "better mousetrap" for this
| or a better style of pushpin. Any suggestions or comments would be
| greatly appreciated.
