Snip: "As Garmin requires the use of their own special charts, are there
other chart plotters more flexible for using the free NOAA BSP charts that
are now available???"
I too have a 2010 and think it is great, especially the large 10" screen,
but only wish I had the new Garmin 3000 series now since it is compatible
with AIS, radar and weather networkable - and all the vector/proprietary
Blue Charts are included FREE for US waters together with topography, port
photos etc etc. However you won't find plotters that work the NOAA charts
because they're raster and plotters use vector. So buy another Garmin! Their
new improved charts are also becoming slowly available for the 3000 series.
