    Greetings from THE WIFE:
It's not the destination, it's the journey. Well sometimes in Florida it
is the destination and they can be not so easy to find. Not everyone in
Florida is thrilled to have all of these pleasure boaters traipsing
through, so finding a good anchorage becomes challenging especially in
    Ft. Lauderdale and Miami.
As most of you are aware, Charles belongs to several email boating
lists, all of which I've given nicknames. Thus far, the TWLs are winning
the "best hospitality" category. Since we left Louisiana 2 MONTHS ago,
there have been TWLs strategically positioned along the coast. The most
recent have actually guided us through like Sterling & Judy in Key Largo
and now Martin & Margaret Veiner aboard "Micha". It will be difficult
cutting the lines when we have to separate. When we travel, more often
than not it's the people we meet that are the highlight rather than what
we see. Although for the last two days we have cruised through Ft.
Lauderdale, Boca Raton, Palm Beach and Hobe Sound so the stuff we're
    seeing is pretty amazing.
What follows are some observations from the journey: (when I do
observations, it's because I'm too lazy to put stuff together in a
cohesive structure, so I just randomly throw it at you)

--If you really want to know how bumpy the water is-always ask the woman
on board- men for some reason tend to minimize water conditions like
waves, chop, etc. with casual comments like "not too bad" and the woman
on board will say something like "even with the sails up, we were
    bouncing like crazy".

--I was helping Charles fill out forms for mooring in Marathon and my
response to the item -Describe your dinghy, I wrote -gray, inflatable
and Charles kind of rolled his eyes and I said, "What?" Then I saw the
dinghy dock where every dinghy was a gray inflatable.

--Don't be concerned about contacting Sea Tow or TowBoat US, they
respond no matter whom you're calling.

--Ft. Lauderdale is not a great place to boat but it is a great place to
look at boats, especially yachts-huge, ostentatious, shiny gorgeous
yachts. It is the Yachting Capitol of the World, it says so on the
    Commercial Blvd. Bridge.

--Manatees reside in the nicer, more populated areas. Generally the
more upscale and pricey the real estate, the more manatees , requiring
more signs and "no wake" zones. Amazingly all of the manatees leave the
    same time as the snowbirds.

--Here in Florida, as everywhere, crabs are only found in the middle of
    the Channel.

Today's boat name is "A Frayed Knot".

    Please read the following Disclaimer:

It has come to our attention that we have given offense on occasion
(apparently a lot of occasions). That's a shame and is truly not our
    intent.
However, the exception makes the rule. So, if you're a sail boater who
always strives to operate his boat in a safe and responsible manner,
i.e. staying on the correct side of the channel and listening to the
VHF, good for you! Most of the sailors we encounter are very capable
boaters, but there are quite a few who can leave one guessing.
The same is true for "SeaRay" owners, we know some (and hope they are
still friends) who are great, experienced boaters. But if you haven't
ever unexpectedly (like in a lovely, quiet anchorage with a pressure
cooker on the stove,) dropped down into the trough of a SeaRay wake on
more than one occasion, then you haven't been boating very long or gone
very far. We're using "SeaRAy" in the generic sense as a type, for
example, Kleenex is a brand, but not all tissues are Kleenex.
Now, lighten up people, if you can't laugh at yourselves, just laugh at us.

    PAT
