it's always a good to do a sea trial before the survey and survey sea trial.
this way you can be sure that the boat is even worth surveying.... doens't
have to be a long sea trial, just long enough to run the boat up to cruise
speed for a while, make sure temps dont' creep up, look for vibration,
noises, smells, etc...
no need to pay for a survey if the boat cant' even be take out !
i think that in most cases, if the boat sat overnigth, things will be cold
enough to evaluate the smoke upon start, etc... maybe not as good as
24hours but close enough.
