Ron:
I don't have one, but I have watched one being installed and generally
understand how they work. Here are a couple of observations:
Due to the heavy weight of the motor on the transom, you need to use
Weaver's Arc mount on the transom. It is a metal arc shaped mount that
transfers the load from the transom to the swim platform. The standard glued
on tube mount is ok for the forward mount as the loads are much less
forward.
You need some sort of winch to haul it up. Your Nissan 4 stroke and the
weight of the boat will run 200 lbs or more and you have a rather limited
lever arm to raise the boat with. So you need a winch and multipart line to
haul it up.
With this setup, the boat rides quite a bit aft on the back end of the swim
platform. For my Carribe RIB it would stick out about 2' past the end of the
swim platform. Ideally you would pivot the boat so the top tube rides
against the transom to pull it forward somewhat, but this causes the motor
to go past vertical and I don't know how this would work.
So, until we go cruising full time, I am happy to lift my RIB up on the swim
platform and lash it to the transom. It takes about ten minutes to rig it up
and down including mounting the motor.
