If I recall Qualcomm originally owned the CDMA patents, but the systemic
problem was our FCC was clueless allowing multiple architectures (3 chipsets
in every phone) to evolve concurrently and the "kiss of death" which was
having not only the caller pay, but the receiver too.
Europe, like on demand water heaters, had their act together, one
architecture, and only the caller pays means cheap phones and more pervasive
expansion of cellular.
Correct me if I'm wrong! (What am I saying, I know y'all will correct me if
I'm wrong!")
