>Ron said- I was thinking about getting a pressure washing unit that I
might use both for spring cleaning off deck grime etc and for cleaning
the engine...
If your boat has teak decks, don't pressure wash them. We've had
discussions about this before, but pressure washing will remove some of
the top cells of the softer "runs" of wood in each plank (scrubbing with
a stiff brush with the grain will do the same thing). Once the erosion
has started, these minute "crevices" will get deeper with as they
weather faster or subsequent brushings or pressure washings removes more
of the softer cells. Sooner rather than later these grooves will begin
to appear to your eye. Eventually they will become noticeable crevices.
If left alone they can become quite deep over time, almost looking like
cracks in the wood. The only cure is to sand the whole deck smooth
again and wood you sand off you cannot get back.
If your boat has fiberglass decks this is not an issue.
