We have an FRG water tank. We, too, used the filter attached to the galley
spigot for some time. It worked well but looked funky; got in the way at
times when doing dishes or filling tall pitchers.
A professional captain introduced us to the Franke Tri-Flow faucet which
includes a below-the-counter ceramic filter. There are three faucet handles ...
hot , cold, "PURE." Using the third handle routes the water through the
filter. The filter is housed in a beautiful polished chrome container mounted
out-of-the-way under the sinks. Almost a shame to hide its beauty.
When we upgraded the galley countertops to Corian last winter, we went for
the Franke faucet after much anguish. With faucet, sprayer, soap dispenser,
and three filters (two replacements), I think the internet total came to $800.
Pricey but drop dead gorgeous.
Until this note, I forgot the recommended filter replacement interval is six
months / 5,000 gallons. Our filter is nine months old and going strong.
Will change it today, though.
Oh, yeah ... if it isn't obvious, the water tastes great. My wife thinks
it's better than the spigot-mounted filter, but I can't tell the difference. I
do know that I'm more prone now to use the filtered galley water vs
unfiltered head sink water for taking vitamins and brushing teeth. Just seems easier
than using the spigot mounted filter ... probably a rationalization to make
the expense worthwhile. :-)
