    depths of about 30' and deeper , essentially putting a load of a certain
    weight or greater, the chain will intermittently jump out of the gipsy
    and thrash until it regains a grip on the chain. The deeper the
    retrieval, the greater the load the bigger the problem. Below 60 feet
    unusable. I anchor in the 50 feet range regularly."

    Sounds like you don't have a windlass gypsy calibrated to your chain-
    exact match is important. I had the exact same issue with the SL that
    came with my boat. Finally dumped the damn thing- it makes a great
    doorstop. Love my Maxwell! Must be something about those Kiwis and
    anchors...
