Hi All
Picking up on the cooking/propane/electric thread have you considered
induction cooking?
I chose an electric induction hob (cooktop to most of you) when I refitted
my kitchen here 3 years ago.
I (as the daily [every day] cook - not just guest appearances) preferred gas
top, electric oven but town gas is not available and I didn't want the
hassle of large gas tanks installed or constantly changing smaller ones.
Induction cooking appeared to be the answer. A large, 4 burner, vitreous
ceramic was fitted with power ranging from 1.8kW for a smaller burner to
3.5kW for the large one on "boost". The heat produced is as good as gas, as
quick as (if not quicker than) gas, has multiple in-built safety devices,
incorporates a timer for each burner and is just wipe clean. Magic.
It is now in for repair and I am using a twin gas burner from a standard
propane cylinder. The set-up you could have on-board. I have had to revise
all my timings. It is SLOW. It is awkward to clean. Its a PITA. I want my
induction hob back.
I checked on US prices this morning. WOW! You can easily pay over 1 BU for
ONE free-standing BURNER. I paid under 1 BU for four burners!!
I will specify induction on my next boat after ensuring that I have a 12kW
(minimum) AC generator to cope with all four burners at the same time.
I have a 10kW propane fired gas burner for wok cooking in the BBQ area.
Successful stir-frying needs POWER.
