My life rule commercial fishing was NEVER shut the engine down until at
anchor safely or tied up. And that incluced leaving it run all night when
anchored out in Hecate Straits behind Rose Spit. But then I am c c c
confirmed chicken. (remember Captain Finnan Haddie, the Chicken of the
Sea?) Check the level in the crankcase / slow idle and check the dipstick-
top it up as necessary- and change it when you get there. Even during a
fire on one vessel, I kept the boat underway slowly while we got the fire
out because I could not tell what damage (fortunately none) was being done
    to wiring.
