I have been intrigued by the car computer offerings for some time but
    haven't invested as yet.

    INFORMATION:
I went back to look at the power supply and DC-DC options that are
    available.
They now have a new 160w power supply fed by the automobile 12v system that
has all the protection features we would need.

Seems like a conditioned DC circuit on the boat would be pretty easy.

Slightly different tack (note the sail talk...)
    >From my research on most of the mini-ITX motherboards, they aren't in the
    class a full-blown Nobeltec system wants. However, I'm running 6.5 with a
500mhz PIII on a Dell Optiplex 110 and don't have any problem with
    performance.

QUESTIONS to any build it yourself computer folks out there:

    1) How difficult would it be to replace the power supply of a normal Dell
    (or any brand) desktop
With the above? I can see the output specs from their docs but can't fine
the pin-outs for normal sized machines.

    2) Can you tell if any of the P4 offerings are comparable to a full-sized
    machine?

    Thanks
