I suspect the mast on a Monk36 is about the same weight as the one on your
Albin 40, especially if yours is aluminum as well. At 5'10", 185lbs 65 yrs
and nominal physical condition, I can lower our mast singlehandedly in about
5 to 10 minutes. In fact on a southbound approach to the Wrightsville Beach
bridge 10 minutes after its hourly opening and 20 minutes before dusk, I
chose to do that while underway in order to get settled into a nearby
    anchorage befor dark.

On the Monk first remove the boom by removing one bolt and gently placing
the boom on the aft deck, temporarily. This step is optional but it does
reduce the load of the next step by almost 50%. Next disconnect the forward
guy wire. Then standing on the aft deck at the base of the mast remove the
pin (another bolt) holding the mast in place and allow the mast to come down
on you as it pivots on its hinge. The neat thing about the Monk is that the
mast can then rest in the cradle that the boom normally sits in.

I would do this only in calm waters and Rita idles the engine for the final
    step.

To raise the mast, I do need Rita's help. She pulls on the guy wire as I
lift the mast. No winch involved in this process, only a wench (my
apologies, devil made me throw in that last line).

If the mast is to stay down for a long period, such as transiting canals, it
takes about 30 minutes to properly stow mast and boom. In this situation the
boom stays in place parallel to the mast and is strapped to it using the
line from their block and tackle. I also use a spare cheapo orange life
preserver to keep them from rubbing together.
