Bob, you certainly have our sympathy!
We didn't sink, but we did have a blown hose, which unbeknownst to us
soaked through an 18 year old "waterproof connection," which in turn
caused a calamitous short in the starter solenoid, which cranked the
starter (with no one on board and no fuel getting through) which caused
a fire, which ultimately burned itself out but not before about $20,000
in damage. Mostly from the oily smoke throughout the boat, but there was
    some burning as well.
As others have said and I will reiterate, I'd replace/check all wiring
that might have been exposed to the water. Our fire occurred within the
three day period after the soaking, we don't know exactly when but it
was after we left the boat on Sunday afternoon and before the mechanic
unlocked the door on Wednesday afternoon.
We have Boat US insurance. They paid the whole thing except for
deductible. We couldn't have been more pleased with their service. I do
believe that your individual adjuster has something to do with how
you're treated, as ours was thoughtful, thorough, and willing to talk it
through with Hans while they were looking it over. ServiceMaster did the
cleanup, and other than the fact that we believe that they might have
taken an extra day or two to enjoy the marina environment which we can't
fault them for, they did a superior job.

Good luck and please keep us all posted.
