Ahoy listees,
I'm back on the list at long last after Katrina. Took a while to get
computer access and wireless internet. I've been receiving the list for
quite awhile but it took time to be able to post.
Our house was shattered but Cigano, our 47' Prairie, made it through with
only a shredded Bimini. We had been planning to move aboard in due course
but not so precipitously as events forced us to do two days after the storm.
The boat was securely tied to a huge floating barge in Madisonville, La. The
entire area lost power but fortunately, we had a little diesel fuel and as
we'd hooked up the air conditioners earlier we survived. Didn't take long to
hook up fresh water and toilet so we were able to make the best of a
wretched situation.
Took several weeks to get the Madisonville draw bridge operational so we
only got upstream to our house around Thanksgiving. We're living aboard at
our dock and making a full court press to get operational within the next
few months. Plan at the moment is to sell the house as-is-where-is and head
for the Tenn-Tom for hurricane season. From there, who knows?
Can't speak highly enough of the Kohler genset, the TECMA toilet, the
Sureflo 5.7 freshwater pump and the Flagship Marine air-conditioners which
were summarily impressed into service and which performed flawlessly under
difficult conditions.
I have plenty of questions of the listees as we prepare the boat to go.
Regards.
Larry
