T&T: Cutting and splicing a depth transducer cable

    Steve,

     

    I have cut transducer cables and rejoined them, adding an extension, with no
    problem. I used standard techniques, that is a terminal block and crimp
    terminals. The critical wires are the shield and center conductor of the
    coax, which is part of the cable. Keep the wire lengths as short as
    reasonable, like 1" or so, going into the crimp connectors.

     

    The signal to the transducer is only 200KHz or so and thus is not as picky
    about shields, etc, as the VHF antenna cables. But even they accept a
    careful cut without problems.
