Marin - I think that it about time you stopped telling people that it's
relatively safe to boat up here in Coastal BC and up towards Alaska. Can you
imagine the environmental imapct this increase in boaters in "our" waters
will be ?? For shame - you have just killed the myths that kept them all
away !!
Regarding the rapids at tide change, you should mention that frequently when
you get close enough to see that the tide is still running it will suck your
boat through the rapids wether you want to go or not - very dangerous. Most
of these areas should not be approached any closer that say the north end of
Puget Sound !!
All said with a very wide grin I must add !!
Speaking of the Skookumchuck, about 6 years ago we were tied up at the Govt.
Dock at Egmont when a fairly large power boat came howling around the corner
up on the plane and straight into the rapids which were at about maximum for
that day. Sure was fun seeing him do donuts and then get spit out backwards
at about twice his entrance speed. I often wondered what he thought he was
doing and also how many pairs of shorts needed changing by he and his crew
??
Anyway, if you feel must cruise our northern waters - do so at your
pleasure, relax and enjoy - they are great.
