No - diodes won't work in an audio circuit - audio is AC, and a diode would block alternate half cycles.

To switch 8 poles, you will have to use a rotary switch - they are available with many more poles than toggle switches. alternatively, you could use a toggle switch to control a couple of 4 pole relays.
You may have to go to someplace like Digikey, Mouser or Jameco to find the necessary parts.
