You do need to use switching--you should not back feed the amp circuit. It
may or may not have protection--but you don't know until you blow it out.
Google speaker switches--there are a number of "A/B" switches available.
One other caution, some amps do not do well if there is no load--so set it up
so that you will remember to put the speakers on the radio/amp you have on.
