A famous boat--and I have also seen her for sale in the last year. But what a
lot of work--since there was a major problem in 1994, where the boat was
basically rebuilt--I suspect that there is residual from that repair which has
caused some recent problems. My personal preference would not be galvanized
spikes--especially if the spikes were of Asian origin. The boat needs
refastening, recaulking, probably some rot in frames (guess) and perhaps in
cabin/deck beams.
The machinery sounds like it is worth what the price is. I thin you would be
looking at over 50K just to get the boat back in the water and running. To
bring it up to first class condition--who knows? My boat was next to
Nathenial Bowditch for about 4 years--and I know what the work was on keeping
her up.
