I purchased new ports but they are bronze and my rudders are stainless steel.
My concern now is electrolicis due to the dissimilar metals.
Comment: Normal zinc attachment will protect these metals.
I assume a "rudder port" is the stuffing box, but I have never seen these
with cutless bearing as this is not a waterproof seal. In any case, bronze and
stainless is the same combination used on engine drive shafts and props. This is
why you should keep a zinc fastened to each rudder. And if your boat has a
large single zinc at the stern, you'll need to be sure a wiper brush or
flexible wire bonds the zinc to the inside of the rudder shaft and another wire to
the stuffing box. If rudders are typicallythe same "bronze" as props, various
manganeze bronze alloys, they'll will generally be slightly more galvanically
active than a quality stainless such as Aquamet 22.
