Frankly, I think that you would have to find another engine to
support any of the conclusions that you posted. Don't get me wrong. I
am inclined to agree with the thrust of your conclusions, but after
examining the tables for one particular engine(JD 4045TFM), it is
hard to see any practical difference in the EC or Mechanically
controlled engine versions, at the same duty ratings.
The lack of appreciable difference is puzzling. The subject is worth
some more investigation. If I get around to it I will post whatever
results I come up with.

Longevity and performance are good reasons to support electronically
controlled engines we are the largest consumer of JD power in the commercial market
we don't use the 4045 only the 6068 and 6081. I have seen both of those
engines change from mechanical to electronic to meet the tier 2 requirements and
the difference in performance and fuel economy are incredible. I believe we
will see greater longevity but it's to early to tell. For those (like myself)
that worry about the reliability of electronic engines we have installed about
125 of the 6068 electronic version and have not seen one failure caused by
the electronic control system. It reminds me of cars when they switched to
electronic we were all concerned about it but today there better than ever
largely because of electronic control.
