My experience with carefully used Interstate 8D deep cycle batteries (appx
40% discharge) was about five years life. And during the last year they had
desulphators working full time. I equalized them twice annually for eight hours
each time during the last year or two. Each of three failed via a single very
low voltage individual cell.
I don't believe they are the best made batteries, but that is entirely
subjective. I can tell you their response to e-mail inquirires is barely adequate
and listees can easily stump their reps..not encouraging...My mechanic likes
the "M" series Powermaster deep cycle which is a slightly more expensive 8D than
their standard...I have about three years on those....
For deep cycle, I'd now seriously consider AGM type for frequent deep cycle
use. As recently posted, AGM technology has higher crank amps, more cycles and
faster bulk charge in a smaller size/weight than traditional flooded lead
acid batteries.
