I used to have problems with mice chewing the wiring on an outboard fishing
    boat years ago.
I kept the boat on a trailer in a shed and could often hear the critters
running around in the hull. After a while the problem stopped, I found out why
when we were fishing offshore one fine day and a long yellow (Rat) snake
slithered out of an opening and across the cockpit deck. Didn't bother me but my
wife didn't enjoy it much. So if the rats get too bad get a snake,
    (preferably non poisonous).
