    New way for me at least; putting self esteem to one side, I share the
    mistake I made earlier this evening. Had people washing and waxing the boat to get
    it all ready for family cruise on Friday after Thanksgiving; went down to the
    boat after putting out fires all day; got there and the charger is not on;
    the house bank is dead, and the dock supply breaker is in the off position;
    rushing around I needed juice to get the cockpit engine hatches up, they have
    screw type rams that lift them; and I decided that I'd power up the 3208's and
    let the alternators dump in some amps and work the hatches.

    Now I'm really rushing around and distracted; cell phone in one ear; usual
    BS scenario; so I fire up the starboard engine; the engine start batteries are
    completely separate from everything else; and whammo I hear the engine go to
    WOT; I slapped the throttle back immediately but I heard a belt squeaking.

    What had happened was that the boat cleaners advanced the throttles, both of
    them, all the way and left them like that; if they had done the same thing
    with the shifters I'd have really had problems---so from now on I'll double
    check the shifters and throttles; there is no defense but the bridge control
    panel canvas cover had been in place and I simply pulled it off and twisted the
    start key.

    On checking the alternator I found a sheared bolt head, which loosened the
    alternator and resulted in the squeak; Friday morning before the planned bay
    cruise will be spent figuring out how to back the rest of the bolt out and
    finding a replacement.

    This replaces, officially, my last trick of leaving the dock with one dock
    line still attached.

    Always something new waiting to bite. Happy Thanksgiving to all. JWH
