This cross tying of series and parallel battery banks is for all practical
intents useless.
The number of extra cable lugs that gets placed on each battery post is just as
likely to increase the possibility of a weak connction which wil lget hot and
thus fail. And it increases the cost by a fair amount.
Back when Trace, Heart and Statpower initially got merged we had some product
cross training sessions and that was when I first heard of this notion.
Apparently it was an idea put forth by a couple of engineers at Trace but did
not have a lot of credence with anyone eles. Evidently some of the new crop of
people have "revived" the notion fo rreasons best known only to themselves.
In theory it will margimally improve lower the resistance of the cables feeding
the chage current to each battery. However in practice other factors are far
more likely to enhance or hinder the proper charging of the batteries comprising
the bank.
If you use adequate size cables to begin with and adequate bus bars to form the
bank, that is al you need froa relaible house bank.
Bob, Maurice and others who simply advocate using good wiring are right. It
works and continues to work. KISS
regards
Arild
