Alcohol is NOT a fatty acid. Fatty acids have the functional group -
CO2H; alcohols have the functional group -OH

Well Rick the diesel fuel injection equipment manufacturers in their joint
statement seem to think that methyl alcohol is a fatty acid.<

Friends, the question of what a fatty acid is is so basic, you ought not argue
with a chemist. Alcohols are not the same as fatty acids - especially methyl
alcohol which is not even a fatty alcohol. Period! If the additive makers
think they are, my guess is they do not employ a chemist to make their
brews.... a scary proposition. However, I do share their concern for
alcohol-containing additives, especially if the alcohol is methyl alcohol. It
has a tendency to cause corrosion, possibly because it absorbs water.

    Cheers,
    Bob Kassal
