The hardest part about putting a Floscan on a Cat engine used to be that you
had to install inline pulse dampeners. The Cat fuel pumps pulse too much to
get accurate readings. It was a PITA because the dampeners had to be inline
and above the top of your fuel tank. They have a new version that
integrates the dampeners with the calibration unit. So, forget everything I
just said about fuel dampeners - you will not have to worry about them. It
just pisses me off that they came out with this two years after I wrestled
with (and bitched about) them.
I had a minor leak in a sealed "homogenizer" (it looks like a filter, but
its not) and visited the factory about a month ago. Nice folks. They
dropped everything to help me. They tested my old one, cobbled together
good parts and bad, tested the new one and had me out the door in about 30
minutes and $15 dollars. I was impressed.
If I were to buy one again I would not buy the high end model with the GPS
input. All I care about is gallons per hour, not miles per gallon. It is
easy enough to do the math. I like the fuel counter and I like the engine
hour meter. Cat counts engine hours differently (based on engine
revolutions) so it is nice to have the actual hours run (a more conservative
number).
Floscan comes with good directions. You will not have any problems.
