John, two most likely possibilities: 1. suction from the pumpout
"dis"--oriented the flap valve in the toilet...even more likely if you
also heard any hissing in the toilet as the pumpout tried to pull air
into the tank through the head discharge line....or 2. It's a
coincidence that it happened immediately after pumping out...that it
chose that time for the wet/dry cam in the toilet to get stuck. Due to
either design or tooling defect, that's a VERY common problem in Jabsco
manual toilets built in the last 5-6 years. That cam is just a little
'gate' that the lever swings to block or unblock the flow of flush
water...when it hangs, it almost always does it in the "dry" mode. If
you felt backpressure that made you wonder if you had a clog, I'd bet
money on it.
The cure for either one (or whatever else it may be that my psychic
powers aren't strong enough to pick up from here): since it's new, it's
still under warranty...have your dealer replace the toilet--and with one
that's decent quality. Ask him to wait till spring to do the work, but
notify him now...'cuz if you couldn't pull antifreeze through the toilet
via the intake, you'll prob'ly have to replace it anyway...'cuz unless
you have an unusually mild winter for your neck of the woods, you'll
most likely have a cracked bowl at the inlet fitting on the back of it
anyway. Just pouring antifreeze down the bowl only sends it out the
discharge...it doesn't protect the pump or the bowl. So unless you put
your dealer on notice now that the toilet has failed, it won't be
covered if you have freeze damage, 'cuz freeze damage isn't a warranty
claim.
