    I have a bronze swing flapper style check valve in the outlet plumbing of my
    shower sump pump. The centerline of the check valve is horizontal, the
    hinge is at the top. At the start of each season I find it stuck closed, no
    doubt the presence of soap scum. etc. contributes to this situation.
