Last August we were cruising down the Pearl River in south Louisiana.
We were dead in the middle of the river and hit something. Upon
looking behind us we saw a LARGE log (3' dia.) bob up with several big
chunks out of it. Afterwards, the boat felt "funny" and was difficult
to steer.
I took a trip to the engine room and found that the Drive Saver had
done it's job. All the bolts had torn out of the flexible element,
allowing the shaft to slide back until it crashed into the rudder.
However, my transmission was intact. Only damage was a small tear in
the port prop.
Had we not had the Drive Savers installed I am convinced that the
tranny would have been damaged. As you can imagine, we happily
replaced the Drive Saver with another.
By the way, engine was a Lehman 120, and tranny was a BW Velvet drive.
Just a *very* satisfied customer!
