>When maneuvering a twin engine boat into a slip using the
transmissions what
is the lists opinion on the maximum engine RPM that should be used?
This question has two answers. If you are talking about the maximum
engine rpm when the transmissions are shifted, the BW Velvet Drive
manual (if that's the transmission you're talking about) gives the
maximum rpm for shifting as 800 rpm. And don't forget to pause a few
seconds in neutral on the way between forward and reverse to let the
transmission "settle down." If you crash back and forth between forward
and neutral you will be having the transmissions repaired sooner rather
than later.
If you're talking about the maximum rpm to use during maneuvering once
the engines are in gear, use whatever rpm you need to use to accomplish
what you want to accomplish. Most of the time, idle or just above idle
rpm will be sufficient. But if you're fighting an adverse current or
wind (or both) you may need to add considerably more power on one engine
or the other to move the boat the way you want it to move. But if you
do this, don't forget to pull that engine back to idle before shifting
its transmission.
