On my 40' OA with 1 3/4" shaft the packing size is 5/8, way off from the
discussion below.

BTW, I still have not found a satisfactory way to extract the forward
cutlass bearing. The shaft tube is right up to the back of the bulkhead that
has the packing bearing and front end of the cutlass tube. No set screws to
hold a bearing in place showing or accessable. Thanks especially to Michael
Negley for the response, very very close to my situation except no set
screws so we have to believe the bearing relies only on a press fit.
Please o please is there another '79 38 or 40' OA DC out there....
