>Both Canada and USA border officers accept the new Nexus card and
number.
According to people I know who have tried it within the last few weeks
Canada (ironically) does not accept the Nexus card for telephone
clearance of a boat into Canada. As of a few weeks ago, Canada's
position is they are still using the Canpass for telephone boat
clearance. The US, on the other hand, does accept the Nexus card for
telephone clearance of a boat into the US.
So if you get a Nexus card, it will work great coming back into the US
but Canada won't accept it going into Canada. You still need a Canpass
for that (unless this position has changed within the past few weeks).
The US will accept either a Nexus card or the I-68 pre-clearance for
entry into the US.
Canada has said the Canpass program will eventually be replaced with the
Nexus program as far as boat telephone clearances are concerned but they
haven't said when. So right now, given the need to go all the way to
the Canadian border to apply for a Nexus card, you're probably better
off getting an I-68 for re-entry into the US since you can go to any
Immigration office to get it.
If the Canadian position on Nexus has changed recently, someone please
correct my post.
