Kurt,
Sunnfjord earned their reputation as a respected builder of commercial boats.
They have put several hundred into Alaska, BC and WA. Several years ago
they built an unusual recreational boat for a couple. The lady has MS and the
boat bas built so she could access all the necessary spaces in her wheelchair -
wheelhouse, galley, stateroom, head, etc. An elevator provided access to
either two or three decks - I forget which. It was a terrific design that solved
a huge problem for a boat loving couple. I understand that she is now in a
nursing facility and the boat is up for sale. The name is either 'Level 1' or
'Level One.'
Years ago, my wife was broadsided by a drunk running a light and her her hip
still gives her fits. She cannot do steep stairs. We looked at many new and
used boats, here and abroad. Nothing would work for us.
We went to Sunnfjord because I was very familiar with their excellent
reputation and because they would work with us. I designed the boat, had a NA bless
it and Sunnfjord built it. We have a bulletproof boat. Top notch
workmanship. According to Eden Saw, the hardwood supplier, the finishing is better than
Asian boats and ranks with the top three builders on the Pacific Coast - but
then I might be bragging. As a bonus, the final cost was lower than
comparables. We got what we wanted and have cruised it extensively for three years.
Now I am bragging.
I suggest that you give them a shout. They will likely know who is handling
the sale. Or you can discuss your needs. They are a pleasure to work with.
