Sometimes a discussion between two or more people will reach a level of
detail or will drift off into a semi-related topic that falls outside
the stated parameters of the list. While some people reading the list
might find the continuing discussion interesting, there's a good chance
more people won't. The folks who monitor and moderate the list walk a
fine line--- at what point does a discussion become inappropriate or
unconstructive to the list? This is why people sometimes voluntarily,
sometimes by request from the list administration, will take a
discussion off-list.
