We have had a DeFever 41 for almost 3 years and really love her. She is a
1983 and was built in Taiwan. I would caution against buying a DeFever built
after 1988. They moved their operations to mainland China and lost all the
old shipwrights and master carpenters. They also tried to save money by
making them a lot lighter, reducing the Fiberglas by about half. Also many
cheaper components like windows and hatches of cheap aluminum. Happily they have
just moved back to Taiwan and maybe the new boats will be better. The older
DeFever 44s and 44+5 are the most comfortable trawlers, with well designed
engine rooms and huge salons.
