I understand the efficiencies involved in the installation of single
cooling pumps to run multiple air conditioners. HOWEVER.....

Since my boat came to me in San Diego with no air conditioning, and it
now has two 16,000 units installed fifteen years apart, I had the
opportunity to think over the installations well before they were done.

Since I consider A/C essential to good sleep and a cruising show-stopper
if not present, I installed the units with separate through-hulls and
strainers on opposite sides of the boat with raw water outlets also on
opposite sides of the boat (there could be a time when outlet flow needs
to be specified). Each unit is supplied 120 VAC from a separate shore
power cable. Either unit can be employed to cool the master's bunk.
The only single-point failure mode is when on generator power, in which
unlikely case, my American Express card would supply a deck-mounted
generator if we were many days from repair or home.
