    When you see the picture of one of the scews, you will note that the upper
    1/3 of the shank has no threads. They say that this is to avoid the problems
    mentioned in other emails. Even type 316 SS, deprived of oxygen and buried
    in a moist wooden plank it going to erode.

    On the otherhand, some manufacturers make their boats with SS rudders,
    shafts, and propellers. Maybe they get exposed to oxygen by the turbulence
    created by the prop.
