I believe that the short outside antenna that came with the kit is included
to facilitate gaining that separation. Haven't done it yet, nut I'll be
mounting it on my Willard's mast to gain as much separation as possible.
Also, they suggest that there be an intervening bulkhead or similar
structure (roof) between the inside and outside antenna.
Since I am still using my DA 9db, 8 foot cell antenna on the new style
amplifier, I have found that the small antenna needs to be close to the
phone to block out any interference from the close, outside antyenna.
It is in this inappropriate configuration that I have noticed that
sometimes, initial "networking" between the two does not appear to work. On
those occasions, I dial *611 and that attempt usually get the phone and amp
talking.
I have been told that once I get the proper antenna separation, this will be
unnecessary. Being on the coast in North Carolina and a Verizon user, I
cannot make speed comparisons until Verizon brings up their own net sometime
is the next 6 to 8 months.
