Hi Jim,
First, you can get the yellow jugs in the one gallon size through
virtually any auto parts store. There is, however, a pretty good
chance that you would have to wait a day or two while they ordered it
from the warehouse.
You can also, as has been suggested, use an old oil jug or other
package for your purposes but if you do please keep in mind that these
things aren't all that robust compared to a proper storage can. It's
pretty important that you put some thought into where you're going to
keep the container - make sure that there aren't any sharp points
(screw tips etc.) around and try to keep it in a reasonably cool area
as well.
Diesel stored in a jug is vulnerable to the same problems as diesel
stored in a tank. Rather than worrying about it though, try this: When
you're finished with changing your fuel filter, dump the rest of the
jug into the boat's fuel tank. Refill on your next rip to the fuel
dock. Voila! An always fresh supply of maintenance diesel.
