The recommendation
said to use "Ph-Ospho-RIC (from Home Depot, found in the paint department -
about $13)." It is phosphoric acid with a detergent. My problem is I
cannot find this product at the local Home Depot, Lowe's or numerous other
paint stores. I did find a product made by ZEP called Shower, Tub and Tile
Cleaner that contains Phosphoric Acid and Glycolic Acid. Is this an
acceptable alternative?

John,
What you are trying to do is dissolve the scale that clogs the heat exchanger. This is basically calcium deposits. Any acidic cleaner that dissolves calcium but does not eat away the metal will do. Bathroom shower cleaners are readily available in grocery stores. Check the label to see if it is safe for the metal fixtures. In the past I have used vinegar, dilute oxalic acid, and grocery store LRC cleaner, all with satisfactory results. The less acidic the solution, the longer it takes but the chance of damage is less.
Incidentally, Coke and Pepsi both contain phosphoric acid. If all else fails, pour a couple of 2 liter bottles of soda in the circulation bucket. Remember that grade school demonstration where the science teacher dissolved a tooth in a glass of Coke? It works the same way in a heat exchanger.
