I have had meniscus operations on both my knees, one 20 years ago after a
football injury, the latest just 2 years ago. You have the normal stiffness and
pain that occurs. In my case it always took a long time to dissipate. The
main issue is that you need to use your knees a lot while on board a boat. I am
constantly getting down on my knees to do something. My solution has been to
have a very good pair of tile layer knee pads on when I do this. It softens
the pressure, spreads the load, and lets me actually get down on all fours
easily and move around. To avoid throwing out my back I almost always kneel
while I crank my manual windlass.
