T&T: air conditioning

On our little Tortuga, a vintage MT 34, we had a single 16.5 K cruisaire. The
best it ever worked was in Watson Bayou Marina in Panama City, because it had
a covered slip. With the Ford Lehman and the genset running, the best you
could hope for was 80d on a 90d day. Shut down the main and wait until about 6
in the morning and I could have my coffee in air-conditioned comfort.

Brought the "new" boat, the Prairie 47, across Lake Ponchartrain to my dock
and turned on the two cruisair 16.5s and it stayed hot a long time. My
solution was to put 1 16.5 in the master stateroom, 2 in the main saloon and a
10k in the forward stateroom and galley; two units per raw water pump. If one
unit breaks down, you can always take your pillow and find somewhere cool. to
sleep till morning. The 13.5 Kohler will handle all four and everything else
    on the boat easily.

The idea is that when I want it cool, I don't want to wait. As I tell anyone
who will listen, spend one August night on a Louisiana bayou without AC and
I'll guarantee you'll head for the nearest shipyard to get a unit.

When the temp is pulled down, the heat is sucked out of the couch and the
mattress and the carpet, I can begin to shut down units till one or two will
    tote the load.

    Regards.

    Larry
